Little Town It's a Quiet Village

Moving to France a couple of weeks before my 27th birthday has been an interesting life change for me. These days I often find myself at brunches and dinner parties with trilingual and even pentilingual (okay it's not a real word but being fluent in five languages deserves a word) company. It's amazing how motivated and intelligent these new people sound to me when they talk about working towards obtaining world peace at the UN, accelerating particles at CERN, selling diamond watches, and even starting their own tourism businesses in the Swiss Alps. This place is wonderful and inspiring for me. Clearly it is the perfect environment for me to take some time and ponder the meaning of life.

This great environment is helping me become more sure of who I am and what I need (and don't need) in life. It makes me think of that quote about how you can take someone out of the something but you can't take the something out of the someone. True to Hotlebug style,  I'm naturally finding myself in bizarre situations every time I leave the house. For example, today at the bank the nice  Mademoiselle asked me where I opened my account at. Instead of saying, "St Genis Pouilly," like an adult who can communicate the name of a bank branch I muttered and stuttered a bit before I said, "St. Genis Poulet." She tried so hard to remain professional as I said the French word for Chicken instead of the department name.

This is just a speck of dust on the tip of the iceberg of strange situations that I've created here. The combination of my ability to not mind if people think I'm weird and me trying to conquer the French language creates millions of faux pas. With that said, after I think about myself fauxpas-ing left and right, it makes it even more clear how much my life IS the opening scene from Beauty in the Beast. Think about it, I live in a TINY (Ségny Wikipedia page) village made up of a boulangerie, fromagerie, patiserie etc. The people in the village constantly greet my with, "Bonjour," I always walk around dreaming about my next adventure, and I stick out like a sore thumb. However, I think I will schedule a rendez- vous with the doctor if the clocks and candlesticks begin talking to me... If you aren't familiar with this clip, check it out! The purpose of this blog is to help me further organize my thoughts and stories here while simultaneously sharing them with my friends and family. Thanks for checking it out! I'll leave you with a couple of photos I've taken in my village.
I absolutely love the shapes and styles of the houses here.

This is my arrière-cour . You can see the snow slowly creeping down les Alps.
